Aldi- More than Just a Budget Supermarket

20SomethingMum likes to think she's Queen of the Thrifty Mums, always searching out good quality products at low prices. But do you have to substitute quality, and taste, for a few saved pounds?

Aldi are one of those supermarkets that are branded as a Stack it high, Sell it cheap, and most would be put off by this tag. However, we have been trying out some of their cupboard and fridge essentials to see if they really do match up to the main 3 big name stores.

Aldi may sell names that you have never heard of, but, boy, they are good! This is a store which you really can easily do a weeks shop all in one place, and even pick up some one off seasonal bargains to boot. Take their ever changing Electrical item specials- Digital Cameras for 49.99, Lawnmowers for as little as 34.99, if you look in store, you're sure to find more than just grocery bargains.

And for a store lumped together with other cheaper name brand stores, they sell award winning wines for as little as 2.99, and promise they wont be beaten on price on the "Big 6" Fruit and Veg sold in store.

They have also been praised for their Lacura Beauty range- which has consistently been mistaken for higher priced beauty products in blind tests.

As for their must have grocery items, we loved their Tea bags (1.29 for 250g) - which Gadget dad, a PG drinker for as long as any of us can remember, remarked were gorgeous and made a super cup of tea.

The kids loved their children's yogurts, priced at (and you might want to sit down here) 59p for 6! In fact Big Tot had one with Little Tot and an hour later she burgled the rest out the fridge- for someone who has never really been a fan, that's high praise indeed!

We also really liked the Luxury Mosher Roth (99p for 125g) chocolate- which looks like a big bar, but has 6 little bars inside which just melted in the mouth, so nice they were hidden for Chocoholic Big Tot and me!

I urge you to look at the website to see if there is a store near you, and try it, as with Aldi, you can find a great range, with great tasting food, at a price you wont believe.

  1. I'm a big Lidl fan, budget supermarkets are so much better than they used to be. If you pick carefully, there are some great bargains!
